Who We Are

Enthusiasts of Off Grid Living

All Things Off Grid is founded by Rancher Peter and his family living in Central California. With a big love for the outdoors and nature, the move to living on a ranch off grid wasn't exactly planned, but it turned out to be inevitable. Rancher Pete grew up raising various animals and livestock and just wanted to get closer to nature, away from the hustle and bustle of major city life and settle down in a quiet, peaceful environment. Having said that, there were certainly many challenges associated with the off-grid living lifestyle so Rancher Pete decided to put this site together to provide many useful resources and share information on best practicies to make life easier for those looking to dip their feet into the homestead lifestyle.

Our Values

Self Sufficiency and Environmental Stewardship

We believe in achieving as much self sufficiency as reasonably possible and also being responsible stewards of the land. It certainly isn't easy for a beginning homesteader to be completely self sufficient in food, water and energy, but this site and the resources within will certainly help you on your way to achieving that. Whether it's raising livestock or a hydroponics garden or installing solar panels combined with battery energy storage, there are challenges associated with the off grid and homestead lifestyle, but these are not insurmountable and in fact, once you do overcome them, it is quite the rewarding experience!

A Better Alternative

Living in the city is expensive. The median home price as of 2024 in Los Angeles is about $1 million. With a 20% downpayment, a 30 year fixed loan at 7.5% interest is roughly $5600 a month. If you make $100k in California, income after state and federal tax is about $72k, or about $6000 a month. A college graduate making entry six figures, forget about buying an average home in Los Angeles. But open up your mind to homes in the countryside and the possibility of working remotely...you can find homes as low as $300k with a nice home and a large plot of acreage. We're here to show you that not only is it possible, it's pretty much better in every way imaginable!

Sharing Knowledge

Knowledge is Power

Why did we first start this site and the channel? Because we want to share our experiences, the difficulties we faced and how we overcame these difficulties. That experience is valuable and we want to pass that long to others who are potentially interested in this lifestyle. If you're the DIY type with the right work ethics, all the things we share and discuss are well attainable and extremely rewarding to achieve. Compared to buying produce or meat from the supermarket shelf, harvesting your own vegetables and meat is far more inspiring. Instead of paying the utility company hundreds a month in utility bills, it's just better to build your own solar and battery storage for all your energy needs. That's why we're driven to share this knowledge because as the saying goes, knowledge is power!
